Fruit Development and Primary Metabolism in Apple

Apples (Malus domestica Borkh.) represent one of the most produced fruits worldwide, along with citrus and bananas. As high quality is an important trait for consumer, many studies have focused on research new techniques to ensure preserve optimal organoleptic characteristics this fruit. However, despite huge number recent technological advances dealing fruit final quality, less has physiological aspects apple development, including a variety processes triggered after fertilization, such as photosynthesis, assimilation carbohydrates, cell division, enlargement, which determine quality. In present review, we summarize some changes mechanisms linked primary metabolism apples, well effect agronomic practices, thinning, key factors improve meet consumer demands, aim amassing available information suggesting future directions research.
